Painting is Laurie's personal, visceral response to the world. She uses paint to evoke something aesthetically raw and authentic. Color and form are her subjects.
Each painting emerges from a path of its own. Resolution of the painting is the goal from the first mark, and a great deal of time is spent thinking about the work, both in and out of the studio. Laurie works to build and balance the painting's architecture using color, lots of white, lines, organic shapes, straight edges, and layers. Many paintings take months to resolve, with the finished work feeling aesthetically balanced and true.
Laurie was born in Brooklyn, NY and received a BA from Bucknell University and a MA from Boston University. She currently lives and paints in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.
