EARLY ACCESS

"Reflection"
by Jessica Magee / Denver, Colorado
"In 2020, I painted rainbows. I needed something to look toward - a promise that color and light were still possible on the other side of a world that had gone quiet and frightening."

"Reflection" begins where that series left off, but the world it responds to feels different. The six paintings in this body of work depict upside-down rainbows. Arcs that curve the wrong way, extending upward as though gravity itself has changed. They are born from a feeling many of us share: that things are inverted, disorienting, profoundly off. What once arched towards the earth…grounded… now bends toward the heavens. And yet, each canvas holds a glimpse. Low on the horizon, a fragment of a right-side-up rainbow surfaces, faint but insistent. It is not a resolution. It is a reminder. The same light that created the inverted arc is still present, still capable of bending back into something recognizable and beautiful.
